Wendy and David Abbot of Little Britain are the Kawartha’s newest millionaires after winning the Guaranteed $1 Million Prize from the April 26, 2017 LOTTO 6/49 draw.
Wendy and Dave have been married for 39 years and found out about their big win after checking their numbers online. “We’ve been playing the lottery as a couple for almost 30 years,” shared the married couple while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto where they picked up their winnings. “I normally pick up our tickets on Mondays but I was at a store buying plants when I decided to also get our tickets,” explained Wendy.
The couple couldn’t believe they actually won. “I checked one number at a time and they all matched. I walked over to Wendy, sat beside her and said very calmly, ‘I think we just won a million dollars.’ Wendy said, ‘That’s great, I have to go to work. We’ll check again later.’”
Later that day, the couple headed to the store and used the ticket checker. “I’m sure the suspense was killing David. He probably stared at the ticket all day. We scanned the ticket and the words ‘Big Winner’ appeared on the screen.”Wendy told the OLG.
The couple are planning to spread some of their good luck around.. “With this prize money we will be mortgage free. We plan to share some of it with our daughter and immediate family members. We would like to also put some money away for our grandchildren’s education. We really have everything we need and this money is a bonus for our future and our family. Winning the lottery means freedom and peace of mind,” concluded the pair.
