KAWARTHA LAKES-They say it takes a village and when it comes to ending food insecurity it really does.
RWH Construction, a family owned company in Fenelon Falls, has stepped up to help fill the void.
The company recently hosted its 3rd Annual Charity Golf Tournament with all proceeds going to the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. The tournament raised $9,031.48 and 170 pounds of food, all donated to Kawartha Lakes Food Source.
“Giving back to the community has always been important to RWH, as a family run business in a small town, giving back to the community the business is located in, and that our employees live work and play in, has always been important.” Reenie Brydon,
Marketing and Communications told Kawartha 411 News. “We specifically support the Food Source because it addresses a basic need and is a great cause. We love how local it is, that it will make a big impact for those who need it. We also loved that we were able to provide a ‘double’ benefit with the food source by also collecting food.”
To date, the golf tournaments have raised a total of $16,339.05 and 504 pounds of food for the Kawartha Lakes Food Source. More than doubling last year’s donation amount at a time when it is needed.
Kawartha Lakes Food Source is a not-for-profit organization of volunteers from across the City of Kawartha Lakes. At its distribution centre in Lindsay they collect, sort, and distribute food to member food banks across the region — buying in bulk, accepting donated food, promoting awareness of hunger, and coordinating fundraising.
Officials say there are more people using local food banks and less food being donated according to Kawartha Lakes Food Source.
