Scarborough Man Charged With Alleged Fraud Attempt At Local Bank

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Kawartha Lakes Police Service has arrested and charged a 33-year-old Scarborough man following an alleged attempted fraud at a financial institution in Lindsay.

Police say on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m., employees of a bank located on Kent Street West contacted the Kawartha Lakes Police Service after becoming suspicious of identification being presented by an individual attempting to open a bank account according to police.

Members of the Uniform Branch attended the bank and conducted an investigation. Officers determined the identification being used was fraudulent and were able to identify the individual. The 33-year-old male was arrested at the scene without incident.

The accused was held in custody and is set to attend court for a bail hearing.

The Kawartha Lakes Police Service thanked the bank employees for their vigilance and quick action in reporting the suspicious activity. “Their attentiveness helped prevent this alleged fraud.” said police.
