KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP targeted distracted driving this week and laid 15 hand-held communication device provincial offence notices.
On Wednesday August 26, 2026 and Thursday August 27, 2026 officers completed distracted driving targeted enforcement in Omemee, Oakwood, Coboconk and Fenelon Falls laying 15 provincial offence notices for drivers holding or using hand-held communication devices while driving a motor vehicle.
The Highway Traffic Act has a set fine of $500 with additional fees totalling $615, 3 or 6 Demerit Points. Police say the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP have seen a significant risk of fatal motor vehicle collisions and this distracted driving blitz is a direct result of efforts to make the roads safer for everyone.
