PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough Police Constable Mackenzie Rogers recently pled guilty to possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and has resigned from the police service effective June 9th.
“As Chief of Police, nothing is more angering than to know that a trusted member of the police service crossed the line into criminality. It is inexcusable and certain, as marked by Mr. Rogers admission of guilt. It affects each and everyone of us, not only in this Organization, but in our profession, when an officer crosses the line they swore an oath to uphold.” said Betts in a statement released today. “We will continue to follow the case through to its conclusion at sentencing. Now that Mr. Rogers has pled guilty, he will be subject to the same monitoring for compliance with court imposed conditions upon sentencing that every other convicted criminal is. I extend my thanks and gratitude to our members who have chosen to serve each day with integrity to the badge, the Service, and your community.”
Rogers was a seven year veteran of the police service at the time of his arrest in 2024. Betts says Rogers was facing several criminal charges. According to a report by the Peterborough Examiner Rogers was alleged to have shared undisclosed “sensitive” police information and allegedly was in possession of a stolen vehicle.
Rogers will return to court August 24, 2026, for sentencing.
