KAWARTHAS-As tributes pour in from across Canada, Fleming College is honouring Provincial Constable Tarun Bali who attended the college and graduated in 2017.
“We are saddened to hear of the passing of Fleming Alum Tarun Bali, as a kind and thoughtful graduate of our Customs / Border Services program. Graduating in 2017 with a genuine passion for serving his community, Tarun had a natural ability to lift others up, always bringing a smile to those around him and supporting his classmates with quiet encouragement.” said the College on Facebook. “His commitment to becoming an officer was evident even then, grounded in integrity, compassion, and a strong sense of duty. We will remember him for his honourable service, character, and the positive impact he had on everyone who knew him.”
On Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at approximately 12:30 p.m., members of the James Bay OPP were conducting an investigation at Kendall Concession Road 7 and Concession Road 6 near Hearst. A member of the OPP was seriously injured and later pronounced deceased.
The officer was later identified as 29-year-old Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, a member of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) assigned to the Dufferin Detachment, with two and a half years of service. At the time of his death Bali was on deployment with the James Bay Detachment.
As a result of the investigation, an18 year old from Hearst, was charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- First degree murder, section 235(2)
- Assault police, section 270(1)(a)
- Flight from police, section 320.17 – two counts
- Resist arrest, section 129(a)
- Dangerous operation causing death, section 320.13(3)
- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle, section 320.13(1)
