Fire At Lady Mackenzie Public School In Kirkfield Destroys Music Room

KAWARTHA LAKES-A fire at Lady Mackenzie Public School in Kirkfield has destroyed the schools music room and the instruments in it.

The fire broke out around 2:30 am on Tuesday morning in a portable housing the schools music room. Firefighters from Kirkfield, Woodville and Carden responded to the blaze.

“The Fire crews did a great job knocking down the blaze” District Chief Dave Kish told Kawartha 411 News.

The Fire Marshal was called in to investigate but did not attend the scene as there were no injuries and the loss was not within the required dollar value.

Kish says the portable building and its contents are a complete write off.

The cause of the blaze is undetermined but not suspicious according to Kish.

The school is now looking for donations of instruments as they have three upcoming performances.

“The Lady Mackenzie Public School Music Program suffered a massive loss early this morning, and are in need of the following instruments, in working condition and dropped off to the school by Friday (as they have 3 scheduled performances next week) said the music teacher on Facebook.
Here’s the list:
1 flute
1 clarinet
2 tenor saxophones
1 trumpet
1 drum kit
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
