7th Annual Jump In The Lake Challenge Supports The Summit Wellness Centre

KAWARTHA LAKES-Residents in the Coboconk area are preparing for a May 2 cold plunge in local lakes to support the soon-to-be-opened Summit Wellness Centre (SWC).

Opening later this Summer, the SWC will be a hub for community health and community space for the underserved northern areas of Kawartha Lakes. SWC Operations Director Jennifer Wilson said the Jump in the Lake Challenge (JILC) is a fun way for the community to participate in raising funds for much-needed equipment and furniture for the SWC.

“The Summit Wellness Centre is being built by the community, for the community – every inch of it has been designed to address the needs expressed by hundreds of people who live here. We can’t wait for the day later this Summer when we can all celebrate its opening together.”

The Jump In The Lake Challenge has a long history of supporting causes in our communities that will have a big positive impact. Since its inception in 2020, over 100 participants and thousands of generous donors in the Jump in the Lake Challenge have raised over $200,000 for our local community. This year’s goal is $20,000.

Unlike organized Polar Bear dips that happen in one central location, this event takes place off each participant’s dock or waterfront location of their choice.

“The Jump in the Lake Challenge embodies our strong community spirit. Year after year we are absolutely thrilled with how such a small action by a number of people has the ability to transform and inspire a small community,” said local realtor and organizer Dean Michel.
