PETERBOROUGH-Parks Canada is informing residents and visitors of upcoming temporary daily closures of the Maria Street Swing Bridge in Peterborough to support routine maintenance and ongoing infrastructure planning.
The Maria Street Swing Bridge will be closed daily from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm from Monday, April 20, through to Friday, April 24, 2026.
During these hours, the bridge will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Outside of these times, the bridge will remain open and accessible.
The temporary closures are required to safely complete the following work:
- Annual bridge cleaning operations and routine inspection to maintain the structure and ensure continued safe use.
- Additional surveying and inspection of the structure to inform the fabrication and installation of the future replacement bridge.
- Minor repairs and maintenance measures as necessary, as identified during inspections.
Residents and visitors can expect clearly marked detour and closure signage and are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternate routes during closure hours.
“Parks Canada appreciates the publicâs patience and cooperation as this important work is completed. These activities are part of ongoing efforts to maintain safe, reliable infrastructure and to plan for the long-term future of the TrentâSevern Waterway.” said officials.
