OPP Re-Aligns Policing Responsibility For Algonquin Park

KAWARTHA LAKES-Effective April 8, 2026, the OPP will operationally realign areas of responsibility for policing services within Algonquin Park.

Police say the Huntsville Detachment will provide policing services west of mile marker 34, including the Lake of Two Rivers Cafe and Grill. The Bancroft and Whitney Detachments will be amalgamated and will be responsible for policing the east of mile marker 34 (east side of Algonquin Park).

The North area of Algonquin Park will be responded to by Upper Ottawa Valley, North Bay and Almaguin Highlands detachments, as well as regional assistance and assets as needed. The Huntsville Detachment will be responsible for policing the Town of Huntsville, Muskoka Lakes Township, Lake of Bays Township and the west side of Algonquin Park. The Bancroft Detachment will be responsible for policing the Town of Bancroft, Townships of Carlow and Mayo, Faraday, Hastings Highlands, Highlands East, Limerick, Wollaston, Tudor and Cashel, and South Algonquin Township (District of Nipissing).

The Township of Madawaska Valley will remain with Upper Ottawa Valley Detachment.

According to the OPP, this change enables the OPP to have increased police presence on Highway 60 through Algonquin Park and for the surrounding communities. It also increases our ability to share resources such as specialists. Members reporting locations will remain unchanged, although some internal realignment will occur as detachment boundaries are adjusted.
