Oakwood Teen Facing Multiple Charges After Early Morning Traffic Stop In Lindsay

KAWARTHA LAKES-An 18-year-old male from Oakwood is facing numerous charges after he was found impaired and in possession of a stolen vehicle according to police.

At approximately 3:30 a.m., officers were on routine patrol in the area of Kent Street West and Victoria Avenue when they stopped a vehicle that was displaying only one licence plate, which was not authorized for that vehicle.

The investigation determined that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Durham Region. Police say officers also learned that the driver’s G2 licence was under suspension for unpaid fines, as well as subject to a 90-day suspension stemming from a previous impaired driving incident.

During the investigation, the officer reportedly observed signs of impairment by alcohol. As a result, the male was placed under arrest and transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, where he provided breath samples that were found to be over the legal limit.

The accused has been charged with:

  • Operation While Impaired — Blood Alcohol Concentration 80 Plus
  • Operation While Impaired — Alcohol and Drugs
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

He was also charged with nine provincial offences under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The vehicle he was operating was impounded, and his driver’s licence received an additional suspension.

He was released from custody with a future court date.

Correction: Police have corrected the town of residence of the accused to Oakwood not Little Britain.
