KAWARTHA LAKES-A 21-year-old man has been charged with Impaired Operation following a traffic investigation on January 30, 2026.
Kawartha Lakes Police Service says at approximately 3:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a male observed by private property security using drugs inside a vehicle. When confronted by security, the male drove away.
An officer quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop as it pulled into a residence on Adelaide Street South. Upon approach, the driver attempted to walk away from the officer. During the investigation, the driver displayed signs of drug use and alcohol consumption according to police.
The driver was arrested and transported to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, where he provided samples of his breath. The results indicated a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit.
The accused has been charged with:
• Operation While Impaired — alcohol and drugs
• Operation While Impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus
The vehicle operated by the accused was impounded, and his driver’s licence was suspended.
He was released from custody with a future court date.
