KAWARTHA LAKES-A rare earthquake hit some parts of Kawartha Lakes on Tuesday night shortly before 11pm.
The quake has been rated from a 3.9 to a 4.1 on the Richter Scale. The epicentre was 14 miles East South East of Amigo Beach near Kirkfield and Lake Dalrymple and was 11.5 km deep.
Earthquakes Canada says there are no reports of damage but the quake was heard and felt all across southern Ontario.
Hundreds of people took to social media to report feeling the quake.
“Felt and heard in Beaverton, pretty scary.” said Sandy Diamond.
“Felt in Bolsover, stuff flying house was rattling.” said Sally Davidson.
“Loud grumbling and vibrations in Oakwood” said Kerstin Kelly
It is rare for our area to have an earthquake according to officials. Statistics Canada says the same area experienced two other earthquakes over the last 25 years including a 5.5 in 1929.
