Inmate Charged Following Seizure Of Contraband At Warkworth Institution

NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged an individual following an investigation at Warkworth Institution.

On November 24, 2025, police received a report following the seizure of contraband by a Correctional Officer in a cell area. Items seized included cannabis, tobacco and cell phones according to police.

Following an investigation, a warrant was issued, and on January 19, 2026, a person was charged.

A 28-year-old male inmate at Warkworth Institution has been charged with:

  • Possession of contraband beyond the visitor control point in a penitentiary
  • Possession of cannabis for the purpose of distributing

The accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
