KAWARTHA LAKES- A Scarborough man who was facing multiple charges following an incident in Omemee has been found guilty of one offence in a Lindsay courtroom.
In December 2020, the City of Kawartha OPP arrested two suspects in connection to a variety of charges, including kidnapping and discharge of firearm with intent.
Just before 3:30 am on December 16th officers were dispatched to an assault in Omemee in the area of King Street.
At the time, Janai Jean 22 years-of-age of Scarborough, was charged with:
- Kidnapping while using certain firearms – confined
- Intimidation – use or threatens use of violence
- Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Extortion While Using Firearm
- Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition
- Assault
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Other Drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine
- Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
On Wednesday October 15 he was convicted of assault causing bodily harm and acquitted of the kidnapping charge.
The other charges had been dropped.
The matter was adjourned for sentencing on November 20, 2025, at 10:00am in person in Lindsay for sentencing hearing.
