KAWARTHA LAKES-The Kawartha Lakes Police Service is warning the public about a scam targeting individuals—especially older and vulnerable persons.
Scammers are calling victims pretending to be bank security, claiming their debit or credit cards have been compromised. They instruct victims to cut up their cards and say the pieces will be collected for an investigation.
Police say in a recent case, a suspect visited the victim’s home, collected the card pieces, and used them to access funds from the victim’s account.
REMEMBER:
No legitimate bank will ever ask you to cut up your card and send or hand over the pieces.
If you receive such a call, hang up immediately and contact your bank directly using the number on the back of your card.
Share this message with family and friends, especially seniors and vulnerable individuals.
Stay alert. Stay safe.
