71-Year-Old Man Charged With Impaired Driving On His Property

PETERBOROUGH-Officers from the Peterborough County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have charged an individual with impaired while driving on their property.

On Tuesday September 2, 2025, shortly after 1:30pm, Peterborough County OPP officers attended a residence on Heritage Line in Otonabee-South Monaghan Township in relation to a neighbour dispute call. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the individual they were looking to speak with was currently driving a vehicle on the property. Police say officers located the vehicle and upon speaking with the driver, determined them to be under the influence of alcohol. The individual was arrested and transported to the Peterborough County OPP detachment for further testing.

71-year-old James McClosky of Otonabee-South Monaghan, ON., was arrested and charged with;

• Operation while impaired

• Failure or refusal to comply with demand

The accused had their driver’s licence suspended for 90-days, and their vehicle impounded for seven days and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on October 7, 2025.

Police say impaired driving is covered by both the Criminal Code as well as Highway Traffic Act. The charge of Impaired Driving falls under section 320.14 of the Criminal Code of Canada, however things like the driver’s licence suspension and other administrative penalties on top of the criminal charge are part of the Highway Traffic Act.
