Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued For Kawartha Lakes And Peterborough

KAWARTHA LAKES-Environment Canada has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Kawartha Lakes and Peterborough.

Officials say conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and torrential rain.

Wind gusts up to 110 km/h Torrential rainfall with amounts possibly in excess of 50 mm Nickel sized hail this evening.

Utility outages are possible. Significant damage to property, buildings and trees is possible.

Be prepared for severe weather. If threatening weather approaches, take cover in a basement or interior room. If outside, protect yourself from flying debris and hail. When thunder roars, go indoors! Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Emergency Management Ontario recommends that you take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches. Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
