NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland OPP has charged another driver with impaired driving while conducting traffic enforcement.
On Tuesday June 24, 2025, at approximately 12:50 a.m., police were conducting traffic enforcement on County Road 28 at Telephone Road. Police say officers observed a dark colored Honda sedan approach the intersection and complete a U-Turn at a clearly posted “No U-Turn” intersection and initiated a traffic stop. An Approved Screening Device (ASD) demand was made to which the driver complied by providing a sample of their breath. With the result, the accused was taken into custody and transported to the Cobourg OPP detachment for further testing.
As a result of the investigation, Nivyan Abbasi (age 25) of Pickering Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
The individual was additionally charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) with:
·      Drive while under suspension
·      Disobey sign
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on August 27, 2025.
