Norm Foster’s Come Down From Up River Next Up At Globus Theatre In Bobcaygeon

KAWARTHA LAKES-Come Down From Up RiverĀ is a touching story of reunion from Canada’s most beloved playwright, Norm Foster, and will be showing at Globus Theatre starting June 25th.

First produced at The Foster Festival, Come Down from Up River tells the story of Shaver Bennett, a logger who has spent most of his life isolated in the forests of New Brunswick. When he unexpectedly turns up on the doorstep of his estranged niece Bonnie, who has no fond memories of her uncle, she worries about introducing him back into her life—and how he will react to meeting her wife, Liv.
Norm Foster holds a Govenor Generals Award for Drama. Known for plays that blend social commentary with witty humour, Norm Foster’s contribution to Canadian theatre is exceptionally noteworthy. Globus Theatre has produced over 20 Norm Foster plays, and they are always at hit with the audience!
Starring as Shaver Bennett is Globus’ ownĀ James BarrettĀ (Buying the Farm, Sexy Laundry, Mending Fences and more). Playing Bonnie Doyle is another familiar face to Globus audiences,Ā Tara KoehlerĀ (Where You Are, Sugar Road, and The Great Kooshog Lake Hollis McCauley Fishing Derby) and rounding out the cast is formerĀ Degrassi- The Next GenerationĀ starĀ Jajube MandielaĀ playing the role of Liv Arsenault.
Much like our own relationships with loved ones, Come Down from Up River embraces the complexities of human connection, combining sensitivity with humour to tell a story of rekindled kinship.
“Canadian theatre is so fortunate that, in part because of the Foster Festival that is now in its 10th year, Norm has been writing so many new and excellent plays. Come Down From Up River is one of those plays. It cleverly interweaves modern day dilemmas with long-established perplexities, of both familial and romantic relationships. The characters are real, their stories resonate and the laughter they elicit is plentiful!” said Sarah Quick, Director.
Come and see Norm Foster’s beautiful story brought to life by this incredible cast at Globus Theatre, running from June 25th to July 5th. More information and tickets can be found onĀ globustheatre.comĀ or by calling the box office at 705 738 2037.
