Annual “Hike For Hospice” Returns On June 1

Participants Walking the Block During Hike for Hospice 2024

KAWARTHA LAKES-Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes (CCCKL) will host its annual Hike for Hospice On Sunday, June 1, 2025.

The event begins at 1:00 p.m. at CCCKL’s new building, located at 21 Angeline Street North in Lindsay, directly across from Ross Memorial Hospital. Registration and donation details can be found online at www.hikeforhospice.ca.

Now in its 21st year, Hike for Hospice is part of a national movement, but it holds deeply local significance. Every dollar raised stays within the community, directly funding CCCKL Hospice Services. These services provide essential, no-cost support to individuals at the end of life and to families navigating the emotional journey of bereavement.

Whether participants choose to walk solo or join a team, the day promises to be one of connection, and shared purpose. For many, it is a personal experience. “Walking with Hike for Hospice was emotional but beautiful. Hospice supported my dad in his final days, and it means a lot to give back in his memory,” shared one participant after last year’s event.

In addition to the walk itself, attendees can look forward to a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere, complete with snacks, treats from Kawartha Dairy, and giveaways. All members of the community are welcome to attend and participate, including children and four-legged companions. Check-in begins at 11:00 a.m., with opening ceremonies at 1:00 p.m. before the walk officially begins.

For those unable to attend in person, organizers invite participants to “Hike Where You Are.” Whether walking in another city or town, supporters can still take part and submit photos of their hike to be included in the event’s celebration of community involvement.

The fundraising goal for this year is $30,000, all of which will go toward continuing to provide hospice and palliative care, emotional support, and bereavement services in the City of Kawartha Lakes. Donations can be made directly at www.hikeforhospice.ca.

CCCKL Hospice Services offer round-the-clock support from the time of diagnosis through the progression of illness and into bereavement. The focus is on improving quality of life, easing the experience of dying, and providing expert guidance through the healthcare system. Services are delivered by a dedicated, highly trained team and supported by an extraordinary group of volunteers who give their time and hearts to this work. It is through both community generosity and volunteer commitment that CCCKL is able to offer these services at no cost to those in need.
