KAWARTHA LAKES-The freezing rain storm continues to have widespread impacts across the municipality. With strong winds expected tonight, there is a risk of additional damage.
Trillium Lakelands District School Board has announced a system wide closure due to the storm. All schools, virtual learning centres and childcare will be closed on March 31.
The municipality’s Emergency Operations Centre has been active throughout the day, closely monitoring conditions and coordinating response efforts. Cleanup operations will proceed alongside Hydro One crews as they work to complete essential power restoration work.
Roads
The Significant Weather Event Declaration has been in effect since March 29, 2025. A full callout was issued at 4am Sunday March 30. A number of routes are unable to be serviced due to downed trees. Several downed power lines are creating hazards. Please respect the barricades put in place by police and public works.
Urban roads are in better condition than rural roads in general. Multiple crews of contracted and Parks staff arborists are being deployed. We have engaged an outside contractors for equipment to remove trees from roads and this remains the priority.
Please do not report a downed tree across roads; we are taking steps to clear the roads as quickly and safely as possible.
