Hydro One Dealing With More Than 500 Power Outages

KAWARTHA LAKES-Hydro One says it has more than 500 power outages on the go at the moment as an ice storm rolls through Ontario. In Kawartha Lakes approximately 5,300 people are without power in 36 different outages as of publication.

Crews are responding to outages across central and eastern Ontario as safely and quickly as possible. Outages are largely being caused by tree limbs and branches being weighed down from the accumulation of freezing rain. The risk of freezing rain accumulations continues across parts of the province throughout the weekend.

Outages can be reported by texting 92887 (WATTS), through the company’s outage map and app, or by calling 1-800-434-1235. Outage tools are updated every 10 minutes as information comes in from crews on the ground. An estimated time of restoration will be determined for each outage once damage has been assessed.

Stay clear of any fallen power lines. If you spot a fallen line, keep at least 10 metres back, even if it does not appear to be live. Report it to 911 and call Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235.
