Aerial Drone Activity Near Warkworth Institution Results In Charges

NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland OPP has charged an individual in relation to the use of a Remotely Piloted Aerial System (Drone).

On March 27, 2025, shortly after 3:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of a drone in the area of Warkworth Institution, and it is believed that the device was used to deliver a package at the facility.

Officers patrolled the area and observed a passenger vehicle at Murray Marsh. As a result of the investigation, police seized a drone, batteries, cannabis paraphernalia, a digital transmitter and a cell phone according to police. One person was taken into custody in relation to the incident.

OPP Forensic Identification Services (IDENT) have been engaged to assist with the investigation.

Brian LY (age 19) from Montreal, Quebec, has been charged with:

–      Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.

–      Have care or control of vehicle or boat with Cannabis readily available.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
