Missing The Peterborough Petes In The Playoffs? Check Out Throwback Petes Broadcasts On The Kawartha Time Machine

PETERBOROUGH-With the Peterborough Petes missing the playoffs again in 2025, Petes PA Announcer and The Kawartha Time Machine’s Gordon Gibb is back with a trio of Petes throwback games from yesteryear.

Beginning this Thursday, March 27th and for the next three consecutive weeks, The Kawartha Time Machine online radio station is once again making up for the Petes’ absence in the post-season by streaming full Retro games in their entirety beginning with the March 27th reprise of an Easter Sunday playoff game with The Petes hosting the Ottawa ‘67s at the Memorial Center from 2002. Belleville’s Jack Miller calls the game with former Pete and NHL veteran John Druce handling the colour commentary in the 6th game of their series originally played on March 31st of that year. Eric Staal was in his second season with The Petes under coach Rick Allain in his 4th of six seasons behind the bench. Of interest is the fact this game was played a year before the Memorial Center was renovated.

That’s followed on Thursday April 3rd with a game that saw the Petes travel to play a road game with the Niagara Ice Dogs from November 4th 2007 in the years that saw The Ice Dogs playing at the Jack Gatecliff Arena in St. Catharines (and 7 years before their move to the then-new Meridian Center in 2014). Players in this game include Zach Bagosian, Joey West, Liam Heelis and Derek Holden under the leadership of Coach Vince Malette and Assistant Coach Jody Hull behind the bench.

Our third, and final throwback couldn’t be any more exciting – and that’s a Game 7 between the Petes and the St. Mike’s Majors from April 5th of 2001. Coach Rick Allain is in his third year behind the bench with Steve Smith as his assistant.

Eric Staal is making his way through his first year with the Maroon and White with local lads John Brioux and Brad Self, and Kurtis Foster.

Game Sevens by their very nature are both enjoyable and frustrating depending upon who you’re rooting for. It means that one team lives to play another day and another series, while the other suffers a sudden end to their season. You might even remember how that game ended – but you might not remember who were the intermission guests on the broadcast – and to be sure, a couple of names and faces you know, and know well…

Game 7 between the Petes and St. Mike’s from April of 2001 will be streamed the evening of Thursday, April 10th at 7pm on The Kawartha Time Machine.com

The Kawartha Time Machine is a home-grown nostalgia internet station that boasts as its hallmark a robust collection of local and regional broadcast archives that are streamed throughout the day on the oldies music platform.

Hosted and curated by Gordon Gibb, The Kawartha Time Machine is marking its 10th Anniversary this month.
