KAWARTHA LAKES-Globus Theatre in Bobcaygeon announced the lineup for its 22nd season of professional theatre with 10 mainstage shows running from May to December 2025.
“This is our third extended season and that means we can offer even more variety to our audiences. What we have been delighted to see over the past two years is that our plays, upon which our reputation has been built over the past 20 years, are still the most popular offerings. Our audiences search them out and that’s why they continue to be the heart of our season. Plus, amidst the variety of plays this year, our audience will be thrilled to discover that two are Canadian premieres!” Sarah Quick, Globus Artistic Director
The 2025 season starts off strong with the Canadian premiere of Desperate to be Doris which is a wonderfully uplifting comedy set in a pajama factory. In a departure from their other offerings this year, this production will see Globus’ professional company collaborate with a local community choir singing a backdrop of Doris Day songs!
“I was thrilled to discover this very funny play that allows Globus to introduce a community collaboration and offer an opportunity for local performers to socialize and sing together! I include it as our opening show as a thank you to all of those that have supported us over the past few years.” Sarah Quick, Globus Artistic Director
The other Canadian premiere that features in Globus’ season is The Comeback by Alex Owen & Ben Ashenden, a hilarious new comedy which took London’s West End by storm and is sure to delight Canadian audiences. Other offerings are Come Down From Up River by audience favourite Norm Foster; A fully improvised play that has just enjoyed a successful run at the Factory Theatre in Toronto, Hook Up by Paul Bates; and a perennial favourite at Globus Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell.
“We don’t often repeat shows at Globus but the beauty of an extended season means that out of 10 plays, we get to remount 1 classic! Our production of Shirley Valentine starring Sarah Quick is a play that people talk about often. It is funny, perpetually relevant and Sarah is a fantastic Shirley. With so many people asking us to do it again and so many new audience members that are yet to experience its joy, it would have been remiss of us not to include it this year” James Barrett, Globus Artistic Producer
Other highlights of the 10-show season include hilarious new Canadian comedy The Beaver Club, two original Murder Mysteries, a Johnny and June Cash Live Concert Show that is sure to get your toes a ‘tapping; and, in keeping with tradition, the season rounds out with a traditional British Panto: Jack and the Beanstalk.
“This upcoming season is one with an abundance of innovative and original content, two Canadian premieres and a remount of one of Globus’ most popular shows. With such a variety of different styles of theatre we hope to see audiences return again and again throughout the year!” – James Barrett, Artistic Producer.
In addition to these fabulous mainstage shows there are 3 more dates to save! May the 9th will be Globus’ Youth Winter Arts performance; May 10th will be the Annual Spring Fundraiser; and Girls Night Out, is back for one night only on Friday June 13th. This all female and all funny stand-up and improv comedy ensemble features CBC darlings alongside Canadian Comedy Award Winners and is sure to sell out.
