OPP Identifies Hot Spots For Collisions Involving Deer In Haliburton Highlands After Concerning Rise

HALIBURTON HIGHLANDS-Haliburton Highlands OPP is urging people to slow down and stay vigilant when you see deer crossing signs.

Recent traffic analysis reveals a concerning rise in motor vehicle collisions involving animals, with 6066 reported in Central Region over the past three years.

Deer-related collisions account for a staggering 82.5% of these incidents according to police. From 2019-2023, the following areas have been identified as hot spots for deer-related collisions: • County Road 21 (Minden to Haliburton) • Hwy 35 (121 to 118) • Hwy 35 (Deep Bay Rd to Minden) • Hwy 118 (35 to Eagle Lake Rd) • Hwy 118 (Haliburton to Glamorgan Rd).
