Fenelon Falls Firefighters Association Raising Money To Restore 1935 Fire Truck

KAWARTHA LAKES-It’s one of the first fire trucks to roll the roads in Fenelon Falls and now it’s getting a new lease on life.

The Fenelon Falls Firefighters Association is raising money to restore the 1935 Chevy fire truck. The goal is $80,000.

It’s been in the works for many years and finally came together recently. The truck was originally used in Fenelon Falls but was sold when the fire department bought a new truck in the 40’s. It was later purchased back by Fred Brandon, a member of the fire department and local business owner who wanted the truck to stay in Fenelon.

Gerry Rintoul says the truck was almost lost in a fire in 1970. Rintoul, a long time volunteer firefighter, is one of the people spearheading the campaign. The Firefighters Association now owns the truck with a plans to put in a more modern engine, breaks and steering and use it for events such as parades and fairs.

“We’ve raised around $18,000 so far and we go several places to raise funds. I grew up and my trade is restoring vehicles whether they were brand new and hit a tree or were older and not safe to drive any more. I seem to have my nose stuck in a loot of things.”  said Rintoul.

Rob Jardine a volunteer firefighter who has helped keep the project alive says the truck is an important part of our history.

“We bought he truck back and are refurbishing it because it’s a pice of the history of Fenelon Falls. It’s important to maintain our history.”
