Unwanted Person Call Results In Impaired Driving Charge

NORTHUMBERLAND-The Northumberland OPP has laid charges following a report of an unwanted person.

On November 28, 2024, at approximately 10:50 p.m., police responded to a call regarding an unwanted individual at a property on Shearer Point Road in Roseneath.

Officers arrived and located the individual and vehicle associated to the complaint. OPP entered into an impaired operation investigation resulting in the driver being arrested and transported to a local detachment for further tests. The accused then failed to comply with a demand for breath into an approved instrument.

Orestes BETANCOURT PELAEZ, 38-years-old, from the Township of Alnwick/Haldimand, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–      Failure or refusal to comply with demand.

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

If you plan on drinking or consuming drugs, plan to not drive. Instead, arrange for a designated driver, take a taxi or public transit, or come up with another plan that takes impaired driving out of the picture.
