Officials say a multi-day lake effect snow squall event beginning Friday evening with locally heavy snowfall with accumulations possibly exceeding 40 cm by Sunday morning.
Very poor visibility in bursts of heavy snow and local blowing snow, additional locally heavy snowfall is possible Sunday into early next week. Lake effect flurries will continue to affect the area tonight into Friday. Snow squalls are expected to move south into the area Friday evening and will continue through Saturday night and possibly into Sunday.
As is common with snow squalls, snowfall amounts will be highly variable. Some areas may receive well in excess of 75 cm by the end of the weekend according to Environment Canada. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Road closures are possible. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.
