KAWARTHA LAKES-MPP Laurie Scott recently met with the team at Bobcaygeon Curling Club and Recreational Facility to hear about the basement renovations that they made to the facility thanks to a $148,900 Capital grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF).
The grant was awarded in the fall of 2023 to help make the basement fully accessible including the washrooms and change rooms and provide a “community room” which will be available year-round to the public for meetings and seminars.
“The Ontario Trillium Foundation’s generous capital funding of $148,900 has enabled the Bobcaygeon Curling Club to renovate its facility, making it ultra-modern while improving accessibility and purchasing equipment for year-round use,” said Laurie Scott, MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock. “This enhancement has created a more inclusive and versatile space for the entire community.”
The project involved a complete reconstruction of the basement in the facility. New wheelchair-accessible washrooms were installed along with better lighting, dehumidification equipment, updated electrical and fire alarm systems, new flooring, ceilings and lockers. A new meeting room was created and is available to the public throughout the year.
“The basement renovations will extend the life of the facility and ensure that members of the community can continue to take advantage of the facility into the future,” said Tom Hill, First Vice-President of the Bobcaygeon Curling Club.
The Bobcaygeon Curling Club is the third-oldest club in Ontario – established in 1884. It provides curling activities for its members in the winter and pickleball to the community in the summer. It also rents its facilities to the community throughout the year.
“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Bobcaygeon Curling Club that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come.”
The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province.
