Kawartha Lakes Police Service Kept Busy With Alcohol Related Driving Charges

KAWARTHA LAKES-The Kawartha Lakes Police Service has been busy with alcohol-related charges.

On September 6th, 2024 at approximately 12:45am Kawartha Lakes Police Service were conducting general patrol in Lindsay when officers reported seeing a vehicle being driven in a reckless manner. The vehicle was stopped and further investigation revealed that the driver was impaired.  The 24-year-old female from Lindsay was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

Later the same day at approximately 4:50pm Kawartha Lakes Police Service responded to a driving complaint on Kent Street in Lindsay.  The vehicle was located in a parking lot at a business a few minutes later.  Police say the vehicle was running and the driver had open alcohol in the vehicle.  The driver refused to provide police with a breath sample into an Approved Screening Device.  Subsequently, the 30-year-old male from Lindsay was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Failure or refusal to comply with demand
  • Having care or control of a motor vehicle with open container of liquor

On September 7th at approximately 1:45am Kawartha Lakes Police Service received a call regarding a possible impaired driver in downtown Lindsay.  

The vehicle was located a few minutes later on Lindsay Street South and allegedly failed to stop for police.  The vehicle was located a second time on Highway 35 South where police were able to stop the vehicle safely.  

The 35-year-old male driver from Putnam ON was then arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Operation while Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Flight from Peace Officer
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor
  • Red light – Fail to stop

In addition to the charges the drivers all received a 90 -day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicles were impounded for 7-days.

The accused will all appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located at 440 Kent Street West in Lindsay.
