Charges Laid After Cruisers Reportedly Rammed In Hastings

NORTHUMBERLAND-Northumberland OPP officers have laid charges following an incident where police cruisers were damaged by a stolen vehicle.

On July 10, 2024, at approximately 4:20 p.m., officers were on Front Street in Hastings and were alerted to a stolen pick-up truck by the Automated Licence Plate Recognition (ALPR) in their cruiser. Police say officers confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from Fort Erie on July 8th, 2024.

Police say as officers attempted to box in the parked vehicle, the driver then rammed two cruisers and fled the area in the pick-up truck.

On Jul 13, 2024, police were informed by Hamilton Police that the accused had been apprehended and was in their custody. On July 15, 2024, the individual was returned to Northumberland by OPP.

33-year-old Kyle Olds from Hamilton, has been arrested and charged with:

–      Dangerous operation – two counts

–      Flight from peace officer – two counts

–      Failure to stop after accident

–      Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

–      Fail to comply with probation order.

The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.
