UPDATE-Crews Battling Fire In Cambray

KAWARTHA LAKES-Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue along with the OPP responded to the scene of a house fire in Cambray on Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses first noticed the smoke billowing in the air at approximately 1:30 this afternoon at Joy Vista Estates in Cambray.

Chief Terry Jones told Kawartha 411 News that the cause of the fire has been determined to be an accidental misuse of an ignition source. Two people were at the property doing yard maintenance when the incident occurred but there were no injuries. Police asked residents to avoid the area of Cambray Road and Circle Drive.

Jones says a propane tank at the home exploded causing a huge ball of fire.

“It’s the first time I’ve witnessed an explosion of a propane tank. The propane gets so hot that even the vent can’t keep up with it and it blows the top off.” Jones said.

The lid was found over 100 yards away on a neighbouring property.

Six halls were called to battle the blaze. Damages is pegged at $500,000.
