KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police were called to two collisions over the weekend and both resulted in the driver being charged with operation while impaired.
On June 21st, at approximately 6:00p.m a single vehicle rollover occurred on County Road 121. Police say the driver of the vehicle had left the scene when they arrived but with the help of the community, officers were able to locate the driver.
Clayton Ward,46-year-old, from Whitby was arrested and charged with the following.
- Operation while impaired
- Operation while impaired-blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to remain.
- Careless Driving
Shortly after at 6:30p.m, OPP Officers responded to another collision in Bobcaygeon involving a Van and a Sedan. Both drivers were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer’s investigation found that the red van had been reported stolen, and the driver of the red van, Giovanni Pellegrino, 53-years-old, from Toronto, was arrested and charged with the following.
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand.
- Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Careless driving
- Driver fails to surrender licence
- Fail to have insurance card.
Both parties were released from custody with a future court date, they were served a 90-day driver’s licence suspension, and the involved vehicle was towed and impounded for seven days in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation (ADLS) guidelines.
