Ellice Street Reconstruction Temporarily Paused Due To Unforeseen Circumstances

KAWARTHA LAKES-The reconstruction project on Ellice Street in Fenelon Falls from Clifton Street to Wychwood Crescent has been temporarily paused due to unforeseen circumstances.

The contractor will be temporarily demobilizing from the site effective Monday June 24, 2024.

The City says the issue that the contractor has run into on-site is an unseasonably high groundwater table that requires them to obtain a Permit to Take Water (PTTW) from the Ministry of Environment Conservation and Parks (MECP) to dewater the excavation in order to continue installing the underground infrastructure.

Officials say before leaving the site, the contractor will ensure that it is cleaned up and safe for local traffic use. To minimize the amount of dust left behind at the site, dust control will be applied to the area during the week of June 24.

The contractor is tentatively scheduled to return to the site by August 1, 2024 to continue their work on the Ellice Street reconstruction project.

“The municipality is optimistic that the PTTW will be received later this summer which will allow the contractor to proceed with the needed removal of the groundwater and the installation of the remaining underground infrastructure.” said the City.
