UPDATE: The military determined it was a replica grenade and hold and secure has been cancelled.

NORTHUMBERLAND-Members from CFB Trenton are currently enroute to Port Hope to destroy a grenade found in the area.

Port Hope High School and Dr. Hawkins are on Hold and Secure and are following appropriate emergency protocols according to police. As per the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, a Hold and Secure is initiated when there is a threat of danger outside or near the school. They are most commonly initiated at the request of local police services.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area of Highland Drive, from Cavan Street to Victoria Street for an active police investigation. It is not yet determined if the grenade is activated or deactivated
