Drugs, Fake Licence Plate And Stolen Vehicle Seized After Traffic Complaint On Highway 35

KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP conducted a traffic stop in Lindsay after receiving a report of a traffic complaint, which led to numerous charges being laid and a stolen vehicle being seized.

On March 14, 2024, at approximately 12:54 a.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on Highway 35 after a call for service regarding a traffic complaint. Police say the driver was found to be driving with a suspended driver’s licence and was subsequently arrested. An investigation commenced, and officers seized approximately 2.7 grams of cocaine, 7.3 grams of methamphetamine, 2 cellphones, a fake licence plate, and the stolen vehicle, according to police

34-year-old Kajatheepan Karunakaran of Toronto, was charged with:

Possession of Property obtained by Crime Over $5000

  • Breach of Recognizance
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
  • Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay at a later date.
