Cobourg Teen Facing Drug Charges After Being Stopped At RIDE Checkpoint

KAWARTHAS-Northumberland OPP officers made an arrest during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

Police were conducting a RIDE spot check on Division Street in Cobourg on March 9, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m. when a passenger vehicle approached and was stopped. Officers entered into an investigation which led to the seizure of approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine according to police.

18-year-old Jacob Sutherland of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

·        Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

·        Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

·        Driver fail to surrender licence.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
