Temporary Lane Closure At Kirkfield Liftlock From February 12 To February 16, 2024

KAWARTHA LAKES-Parks Canada is advising the public to expect traffic interruptions at the Kirkfield Lift Lock from Monday February 12, 2024, to Friday February 16, 2024, from 7am to 5pm.

A partial lane closure on Kirkfield Road (County Road 6) is required to facilitate crane access to support the necessary repairs at the Kirkfield Lift Lock. Traffic controls, including flaggers and signage, will be in place as needed.

In September 2022 a mechanical issue caused the evacuation of passengers for the Kawartha Voyageur. The Kawartha Voyaguer is a commercial cruise ship that holds up to 45 passengers. Witnesses told Kawartha 411 News the boat was at the top of the lift lock heading to Peterborough but had to be brought back down. It appears the gate was stuck and would not close all the way. Water was pouring over the lock onto the bow of the boat as it was lowered.
