Police Watchdog Called In After Suspect In Child Pornography Investigation Dies

PETERBOROUGH-The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 46-year-old man in Peterborough last night.

Preliminary information from the SIU suggests the following:
  • At approximately 4:30 p.m. on January 31, 2024, Peterborough Police Service officers went to a residence in the area of County Road 35 and Regional Road 2 to arrest the man on a warrant in relation to a child pornography investigation.
  • The man was found in medical distress in the basement.
  • Paramedics took the man to hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Two investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.

The Peterborough Police Service announced on Wednesday, January 31 it was looking for a repeat sexual offender who fled from his residence in Peterborough shortly after a search warrant was conducted there on Thursday, January 24, 2024.

At the time police said the evidence recovered, as a result of the search warrant, has led Investigators to believe that reasonable and probable grounds exist for charges of possession of child pornography. A warrant for the arrest of Jason Outhwaite, a 46-year-old male, for possession of child pornography, was issued.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video or photos, to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529 or online at: https://siu.on.ca/en/appeals.php
