NORTHUMBERLAND-A Peterborough man is one of three people facing impaired driving charges in Northumberland.
On December 22, 2023, at approximately 7:35 p.m., Northumberland OPP officers were conducting RIDE spot checks on County Road 25 in the Municipality of Trent Hills. Police say an Approved Screening Device (ASD) was utilised on a driver of a pick-up truck who was in the company of his 10-year-old daughter. The individual who is not named to protect the identity of the child, was arrested and transported to a local detachment for further testing. The care of the child was transferred to a family friend.
A 35-year-old male from Peterborough has been charged with Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs and Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration.
On December 25, 2023, at approximately 2:10 a.m., OPP was made aware of a pick-up truck travelling the wrong way on Highway 401 from Trenton to Northumberland. Police say the vehicle initially failed to stop for officers. Northumberland OPP stopped the vehicle travelling westbound in the eastbound lanes on Highway 401 within The Municipality of Brighton.
37-year-old Matthew Workman from Cobourg, has been charged with:
- Dangerous Operation
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Fail to stop for Police
- Drive wrong way – divided highway
- Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available
- Fail to notify change of address.
Police responded to a report of a passenger vehicle in a ditch on Rice Lake Drive, Hamilton Township On December 26, 2023, at approximately 6:35 p.m. Officers attended the scene and there were no injuries reported. An ASD was utilised by police and as a result, the driver was arrested and transported to a detachment for further testing.
Kamryn Summers-Leavitt, 20-years-old, from Picton, has been charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Novice driver – blood alcohol concentration above zero.
The accused individuals are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date. All received an additional 90-day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a 7-day vehicle impoundment.
