Traffic Stop In Peterborough Results In Drug Charges

PETERBOROUGH-Peterborough County OPP Officers conducted a traffic stop which resulted in two individuals being charged with drug-related offences.

The Peterborough County OPP conducted a stop on a cube van on Chemong Road when It made an abrupt move as if to avoid police on December 9. The officers also noted that the van did not have a front licence plate. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers spoke with the driver and noted the passenger attempting to avoid any contact with them according to the OPP. Officers say they observed what appeared to be drugs and drug paraphernalia within plain view within the vehicle, and as a result, both individuals were arrested.

29-year-old Lillian Williams of Bellevue, ON, was arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

·      Obstruct Peace Officer

·      Failure to comply with release order – other than to attend court

The accused was held for Bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough.

28-year-old Abigail Burtch of Addington Highlands Township, ON was arrested and charged with:

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance – Methamphetamine

·      Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of Trafficking – Opioid

The accused was released and is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 9, 2024.
