Police Investigating Suspicious Death Near Fenelon Falls

KAWARTHA LAKES-City of Kawartha Lakes OPP is investigating a suspicious death that took place near Fenelon Falls.

On October 2, 2023, at 7:37 p.m., police were called after a 79-year-old female was discovered deceased in a residence on Kanata Trail. A post-mortem has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety but did not elaborate.

The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Crime Unit has commenced an investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with assistance from members of the OPP Central Region Crime Unit, City of Kawartha Lakes OPP Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), and OPP Regional Support Team (RST), and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario (OCCO) and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS).

The investigation is in its early stages and no further details can be released at this time. Residents in the area should expect to see a large police presence over the next few days.
