Dangerous Drug Carfentanil Seized In Bowmanville

DURHAM REGION-Durham Regional Police say a man wanted on outstanding firearm charges has been arrested following an impaired investigation that allegedly resulted in numerous drugs being seized.

Police say on Tuesday, September 27, 2023 at approximately 9:55 p.m., members of East Division were proactively patrolling the area of Baseline Road and Liberty Street South in Bowmanville when they came across an electric motorcycle operating at excessive speeds in an unsafe manner.  The male was arrested and found to be in possession of a large quantity of cocaine, carfentanil, and cash according to police.

Carfentanil is an extremely powerful drug that is legally used as a horse tranquillizer. It is up to 100 times more potent than Fentanyl. It is not approved for use in humans. An amount the size of a grain of salt can kill.

The male was also arrested on outstanding firearm charges stemming from a previous investigation.

A 37-year old from Clarington is charged with Discharge Firearm With Intent to Wound, Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, Possess Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Other, Possess Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, Possess Proceeds Obtained by Crime Over $5000.

He was held for a bail hearing.
