KAWARTHA LAKES-The City of Kawartha Lakes OPP says officers have made an arrest in regard to a historic sexual assault involving multiple victims stemming from 1986 up to as recently as 2019.
On September 11, 2023 the OPP Crime Unit began an investigation into a historic sexual assault in Verulam township, from which a second victim from another incident was identified according to police. As a result, police say 82-year-old Frank Negenman of Oshawa was arrested and charged with:
- Sexual Assault on a Person Under 16 years of age
- Adult Sexual Assault (two counts)
The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Lindsay on November 2, 2023.
“Sexual assault is a crime that is substantially underreported. Research suggests that approximately 90 per cent of sexual assaults go unreported to police.” said the OPP in a press release. “There is no statute of limitations on sexual offences and a report can be made to police at any time, regardless of how much time has passed.”
