Tree Canada And Community Volunteers Work Together To Increase Tree Cover In Peterborough On National Tree Day

PETERBOROUGH-On September 20th, Peterborough residents will join Tree Canada to celebrate National Tree Day at the Peterborough Humane Society.

National Tree Day is a day for Canadians to celebrate trees and connect with nature. Members of the Peterborough community and local BMO employees will plant trees to help increase tree cover and wildlife habitat in the area.

This is the largest National Tree Day celebration to date with over 1,500 volunteers already registered to volunteer at 18 Tree Canada events happening in every province. More than 50 community-led events are also planned by local groups, schools, and workplaces across the country.

Tree Canada and National Tree Day presenting sponsor, BMO, are working together to increase community well-being and help mitigate the impacts of climate change by planting native trees and shrubs in local parks and green spaces.

Trees provide numerous environmental and health benefits as they grow, and increasing urban tree canopy is key to reducing the heat island effect, regulating temperatures, improving air quality, lowering flood risks and increasing wildlife habitat.
