KAWARTHA LAKES-The laughs keep coming at Globus Theatre with A Not Quite Sherlock Mystery on September 23 with all-around tour-de-force comic, Chris Gibbs.
Barnaby Gibbs is Victorian London’s most overlooked detective…played by an ex-street performing comedian. With wit, charm, timing, and almost no respect for the rules of theatre, Chris Gibbs creates a simple, hilarious theatrical experience unlike any other.
Chris began his career as a street performer in London’s Covent Garden. Described as “One of the funniest guys around” by the National Post, Chris has performed around the world including at The Comedy Store in London, the Last Laugh in Melbourne, Just for Laughs in Montreal, and two CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival Galas. His one-man shows Like Father, Like Son? Sorry, A Legal Alien and The Power of Ignorance continue to tour all over Canada. Chris has performed with Globus for 20 years, appearing in their first season and in many murder mysteries and original shows ever since. A veteran performer of the Fringe Festival, Chris is back on the Globus stage, fresh from the 2023 Winnipeg Fringe.
If the Fringe Festival ever gives out lifetime achievement awards, Chris Gibbs will be one of the first in line. His delivery is second to none, with his dry wit and deadpan style of humour on full display in this show. Gibbs’ shows are the nearest thing to a sure thing at the Fringe said UMFM 101.5, Winnipeg
Gibbs/Gibbs unravels the story with a dazzling array of characters, piquant details and eccentric diversions. Suffice to say, Gibbs – the performer – is precisely the bumbling fool we all need at the fringe. ★★★★ Winnipeg Free Press
“Gibbs’ performance as the witless and self-deprecating Barnaby is near flawless. His martini-dry wit is characteristically sharp, in both script and performance, and his comic timing is beautiful.” CBC
“Absolutely priceless… Sherlockians will be in heaven. Everyone else will be here, laughing hard.” Edmonton Journal
On September 23rd the show will be followed by a Q & A session led by Globus’ Artistic Producer James Barrett where audience members will have the opportunity to ask Chris about his career, the creation of his characters, and all the hilarity within his show.
You won’t want to miss this one-night show of laughs, dizzying story-telling and delightful characters performed by one of Canada’s top-level performers.
