Violent Weekend In Peterborough As Police Investigate Shooting, Stabbing And Weapons Offences

PETERBOROUGH-It was a violent weekend in Peterborough.

The Peterborough Police Service is searching for a suspect after a shooting early Monday morning.

At approximately 12:22 am on Monday, September 4, 2023, officers were called to the area of Rubidge Street and Stewart Street area. Upon arrival, officers located the male victim with a leg injury.  He was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre before being transferred to a Toronto-area hospital for further treatment.  Police say officers learned there had been an argument between the men at the time of the incident. Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect.

The suspect was described to police as:

  • Black male
  • 5’10” – 6’
  • Stocky build (180- 200lbs)
  • Short corn rows
  • Thin moustache, well-groomed short beard
  • Wearing dark jeans and a black t-shirt

An 18-year-old Peterborough man is facing charges after an incident early Monday morning.

At approximately 5:50am on Monday, September 4, 2023, officers were called to a residence in the Walker Avenue and Marsdale Drive area. Police say there had been a dispute between two brothers during which one was stabbed.  The victim was taken to Peterborough Regional Health Centre for treatment.

As a result of the investigation, an 18-year-old Peterborough man was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated Assault

The accused was held in custody and appeared in court Monday, September 4, 2023.

Two Peterborough teens are facing charges after an incident Saturday afternoon.

Around 3:15pm on September 2, 2023, Peterborough Police received several 9-1-1 calls about a male on a bicycle with a firearm in the Reid Street and Sherbrooke Street area.  Officers went to the area but were unable to locate anyone.  Shortly after 4:30pm, officers were called to the area of George Street and Brock Street by an off-duty civilian member of the Service who spotted a male matching the description given to police. Officers arrived in the area and spotted two males on bicycles.  Police say when officers attempted to stop the pair, they fled. Police gave chase and both were taken into custody.

Police say during a search of both males after arrest, officers seized:

  • BB Gun with ammunition
  • Brass knuckles
  • Bear mace
  • Knives
  • Bandanas
  • Gloves

It was further determined that one of the bicycles had been reported stolen in June of this year.

As a result of the investigation:

A 15-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada

A 16-year-old Peterborough male was arrested and charged with:

  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 – in Canada

Both were released on an undertaking and will appear in court at a later date.
