Police Standoff In Peterborough Early Monday Morning

PETERBOROUGH-There was a tense police standoff just northwest of the city’s downtown this morning. Several officers were seen in front of a home at 299 McDonnel Street with both rifles and handguns drawn just after dawn. Witnesses say no less than nine Peterborough police vehicles were at the scene including an armoured vehicle. Officers were also armed with shields as they held their positions in front of the multi-dwelling home according to witnesses. Two people were later taken into custody.

The Peterborough Police Service says it is investigating a criminal matter.

“There are no further threats and concerns for public safety. Police will be remaining in the area to continue with the investigation. Thank you to the community for your cooperation and patience.” said police this afternoon.

There’s no word on what prompted the incident or if charges were laid.
